Can Paint Make My Quilt Better?
3 or 4 hour class (mainly demo with some hands on)* class fee for fabric and use of Annette’s paints, brushes and medium. Bring a pictorial quilt, quilt top, or preprinted panel to class, (and the photo you made it from, if you used one) and we’ll talk about What, Where, and How to paint on your quilt to add details, visual depth and dimension. If you don’t have a pictorial quilt come anyway! Annette will demonstrate her “controlled hand-painting” technique and you’ll get a little hands-on experimentation with the paint. *Note: This class can also be a full day or two day class. The more time we have the more painting we can do,including painting on the student’s quilts if they desire to. Get supply list.
2 day class The class fee includes fabric and use of Annette’s paints, brushes and medium. Use fused appliqué to create this stunning wall hanging (25″ wide x 13″ high, unquilted). We’ll do some shading with paint on your quilt top to add more visual depth. No painting skills required. Sewing machine is optional for class. Get supply list.
Machine Quilting for Pictorial Quilts
6 hour class We’ll explore together the possibilities for enhancing your pictorial quilts with free motion machine quilting. You’ll get lots of ideas and time to start quilting on your quilt or sample. Prerequisite: Must have basic free motion machine quilting skills and know how to operate your sewing machine. Painted Fall Leaves Wall Hanging
6 Hour Class Class Description: Add visual depth to a fused appliqué wall hanging full of autumn leaves and branches with transparent Seta Color paints. The project is approximately 20″ wide by 9″ high. We’ll do the cutting and fusing at the beginning of class and then using my paints and brushes and medium, you’ll learn my easy “controlled hand painting” technique to bring the leaves and branches to LIFE! No sewing machine required. Note: Pattern and painting supplies fee includes the pattern and use of paints, medium and brushes. Get supply list.

Playing with Paint
6 Hour Class Class Description: We’ll be painting small pieces of prepared for dying fabric (PFD) to add to your fabric stash, with a focus on color mixing, creating color gradations, and over-painting. Seta Color fabric paints will be used. Suitable for all levels, ages 14 and up. Note: The supply fee covers “Prepared for Dying” fabric, foamcore board and use of paints Get supply list.
6 Hour Class Class Description: Learn some easy “controlled hand-painting” techniques to bring visual depth and life to a fused appliquéd hibiscus by adding colorful shading and details. We’ll cut out and fuse the flower and leaf fabrics onto a 12 ¾ ” square background first and then do the painting with Seta Color and Karen Pharr Textile paints. You’ll be using my paints, brushes and medium. Suitable for all levels, ages 14 and up. Note: The pattern and supply fee covers the pattern and use of paints, medium and brushes. Fused Applique Quilt from a Photo
3 Hour Class Class Description: See the processes for creating a pictorial quilt from a photograph in this demo class. We will cover making a pattern from a photo and construction by fused appliqué and using good composition. Paint enhancement will be discussed. There will be some hands-on activity. Get supply list.
Pictorial Quilting: Photo to Applique to Paint
4 ½ to 5 Day Class Class Description: Annette will take you through the process of making an original pictorial quilt from your own photograph. (This is not photo transfer.) You will learn how to make a pattern from your photo and then construct your quilt top using a raw-edge fused appliqué technique. You will also learn how to use textile paint to add details, depth, shadows and highlights to increase the visual impact of your quilt. Using good composition and creating depth are emphasized. Quilting ideas will be discussed and Annette will show you how to make an artist’s facing to finish the edges of your quilt. Get supply list.
From Photo, To Pattern, To Quilt
6 hour class Learn how to turn a photograph into a pattern and then into a quilt in this technique class. Good composition will be discussed and you will learn how to make an artist’s facing to finish the edges. You will learn the process by making “Rocky Mountain Sunrise” (16.5″ x 13″) using the fused applique technique. (See finished sample below) Note: An optional fabric kit is available for this class. Painting Calla Lilies
6 hour class This is your chance to try fabric painting without having to purchase all the supplies first. Learn a few simple painting techniques to create 3 dramatic calla lilies on an 13.25″ by 15.5″ inch project. We will be using Setacolor textile paints. We will cut out and fuse the fabrics together at the beginning of class and then paint on the details. You will be working from a kit provided in class and using my paints, brushes, and mediums.
